HOW DOES LIFE COACHING DIFFER FROM PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Psychotherapy

is communication between a patient or group of patients and a therapist. A mental health diagnosis is applied to the patient, and what the patient and therapist do together is called psychotherapy. The goal of psychotherapy is to treat the diagnosed illness.

Life Coaching

is communication between a Client and a Coach. There is no mental health diagnosis applied to the client. The Client is seeking some form of self-improvement or change, and the Coach is there to provide guidance, empowerment and structure to the process. The goal of Life Coaching is self-improvement.
